Children Ages Five and Up:  All lessons teach horsemanship skills, grooming, tacking up, walk/trot-jog, turns, diagonals, and rising trot depending on riders’ skill level and goals.  Lessons are one hour in length.

Youth and Adults:

  • Level One:  Designed for the first time rider:  Riders commit to  trying four one hour lessons, this allows us to explore skill level, riding goals and develop primary horsemanship skills such as safety, grooming, tacking, saddling,  and beginning riding movements of halt/walk/trot/circles/diagonals/reverse/back.
  • Level Two:  This level builds on the basics learned in introductory, and increases the students comfort level with their horse.
  • Level Three:  Riders have now developed an ability to manage a horse in the arena and are comfortable at the walk/trot.  They now start to canter and refine their horsemanship skills.
Riders can now comfortably ride all gaits, and are learning turn on haunch and forehand, simple lead changes, equitation patterns and may explore specific disciplines such as :  dressage, western pleasure, jumping, saddle seat, English pleasure, competitive trail, etc.
  • Pre-Competitive:  For our more entrenched riders who just can’t get enough horses in their lives.  Pre-Competitive helps the rider chose their area of focus and work towards developing the skill level to compete in horse shows.
  • Competitive:  Horse Shows, Competition and lots of dedication.  Competition is not for everyone, but it can be very rewarding.

Adult Riders:  This class is specifically set aside for adults, from those are getting on a horse for the first time to those who are returning to riding after raising their families.  This is a rider centered class and focuses on the riders goals and aspirations, all levels are welcomed.

Private:  This class is one rider and one instructor only.  These lessons are designed to increase the rider’s skills or for the more advanced rider seeking higher-level training. Lessons may include lunge line seatwork at riders’ request.

Equine Canada Rider Levels:  This is a skill based program designed by Equine Canada that is recognized throughout Canada, and is recognized at several colleges. Program includes stable management, mounted and on ground assessments and written work. Participants must have basic riding foundation to begin this program and be interested in developing more advanced skills.

Equine Canada Certified Instructor/Assistant Instructor Program:  This is a national program designed and managed through Equine Canada and can only be administered by a certified coach, and is transferable across Canada. Students will work directly with the coach on their rider levels, Ground work, stable management, herd management, mentorship, safety and teaching skills. This program is geared towards the rider who is interested in becoming an assistant instructor, it's hard work, labour intensive but very rewarding!

Equine Canada Certified Level 1 Coach:  This is the continuation to the Instructor program but includes competition and increased skills in advanced riding and equitation. This is available to privately owned horses and is possible on lesson horses. Outside students welcome.

Canadian Morgan Horse Association Youth Horsemastership Levels

The purpose of the CMHAY is to instill in young people pride in, enjoyment of, and knowledge about the Morgan Horse with the ultimate objective of educating future owners and breeders dedicated to preserving, improving, promoting and cherishing the Morgan breed. These objectives, incorporating the ideals and skills of horsemastership and management, sportsmanship, responsibility in citizenship, discipline and competence in leadership, will be pursued through active youth programs.

  1. The program is open to CMHAY members, 21 and under, who are interested in learning more about the Morgan and safe horsemanship.
  2. There are six levels:   Members may work in the levels in their youth club at Ride That Horse. All work must be completed with a Morgan Horse
  3. The CMHA will award pins to members who pass each level. If all levels are completed a certificate will be awarded to the individual. The individual’s names will also be mentioned in the Canadian Morgan Magazine.
  4. Tests for the levels are to be administered by Susan Van Dusen for Saskatchewan as she is one of the Official examiners appointed by the Saskatchewan club and approved of by the CMHA board and CMHA Youth Committee.

We are fully insured and are a Saskatchewan licensed business.
